Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ 1. What is an Alloy?
An Alloy is the collective name given to all metals which have been combined by man with various materials to produce another type of metal, for example, stainless steel, titanium, copper, brass and aluminium are all Alloys. Since we are one of the few design companies that works only and extensively with these products, it made sense that ALLOY should be the company name.

FAQ 2. Is titanium the hardest metal?
Yes, out of all the Alloys, Titanium is the hardest, strongest, most expensive and lightest of all metals. It has a wide variety of uses where these inherent qualities are demanded: fighter jets; the space shuttles; glasses\eyewear; surgical parts for the body (?), jewellery and computer laptop packaging. Titanium Oxide, which is mined in Western Australia, looks like a white powder and is used in paints.

FAQ 3. How do you clean stainless steel?
Generally warm soapy water with a soft sponge is sufficient but depending on the surface contamination, a number of other cleaning agents can be used. Prosol developed for use on outdoor furniture and Gumption can be used on No. 4 brushed surfaces or finishes which have irregular scratches. The surface can be returned to its normal lustre by rubbing or wiping in the grain direction of the material to ‘sand’ out random scratches.

FAQ 4. Does stainless steel rust?
No, however, if there is some appearance of ‘discolouration’ it is usually surface contamination which deposits ON the surface of stainless steel which makes it appear to be rusting.
