Autore South Sea Pearls
Pearl emporium Autore South Sea Pearls approached ALLOY in 2001 to re-design the luxurious packaging for its highly sought-after individual pearl strands and unique pearl jewellery. Pearls are regarded by Autore as 'the diamonds of the sea' and ALLOY's brief was to create a casing that reflected this mantra but in a thoroughly contemporary way. Designed to be as bewitching as its contents, Copper was selected for its unique natural hues, providing a modern edge to the 'glory box' charm of the casing. A highly polished pearl shell was embedded in the de-bossed copper lid with its textured surface visible from the inside and designed to complement the unique gems cocooned in a soft, creamy suede.

As a special project Autore was also seeking a highly original and high quality casing design for the much publicised Ian Thorpe Collection of unisex pearl neck pieces. Developed in consultation with Ian Thorpe, ALLOY came up with a simple round, hinged brushed stainless steel design which, when opened out, looks suspiciously like a pair of swimming goggles.

Finished off with Ian Thorpe's rambling signature engraved on the lid, the stainless steel container was then housed in a silver-grey draw-string Lycra bag. Any reference to Thorpe's famous swimming costume was purely deliberate and designed to give the traditionally staid pearl a contemporary shake up.

Coca-Cola
ALLOY recently collaborated exclusively with Coca-Cola to produce the best bottle opener you could get your hands on. Designed as promotional item for Coke distributors, including pubs, bars and clubs, the sleek, stainless steel speed-opener was designed to fit comfortably in the barman's back pocket and snugly in the hand so it would become an easy to use 'must have' behind-the-bar item. It's no coincidence that the ultimate barman's 'tool' should take on the shape of a wrench.

Kingsley's Crab & Steak House
Kingsley Smith, the man behind the renowned Kingsley's Crab & Steak House - Woolloomooloo Wharf restaurant, commissioned Jonathon Worner to design a branded stainless steel steak knife exclusive to the restaurant as well as a series of brass table lamps to reflect its no-nonsense style. Since then, Kingsley's has also made use of the copper 100x10mm stack mosaics in its restaurants in Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne.
