FAQ 1. What is an Alloy?
An Alloy is the collective name given to all metals that have been combined by man with various materials to produce another type of metal, for example, stainless steel, titanium, copper, brass and aluminum are all Alloys.
FAQ 2. Why choose ALLOY metal tiles?
- We work exclusively with high-grade metals. Some companies will substitute high-grade metals with cheaper materials that will corrode and not last. Only ALLOY, manufacturers of the authentic solid metal mosaic tile, provides a Certificate of Origin document, which ensures only high-grade stainless steels and metals are used.
- Punched from one sheet of 1.6mm metal, ALLOY tiles are made from solid metal and contain no backing mesh, plastic inserts or metal look-alike 'metallic' coatings, so ALLOY tiles won’t dent, crack or de-laminate. ALLOY has been producing metal mosaics for more than 10 years and we are recognised for our consistent quality. ALLOY metal tiles are face mounted for better protection of the tile face during installation. We offer a full range of finishing pieces ensuring a superior finish when a full tile will not fit. Our metal tiles are Australian Made and therefore guaranteed sweatshop free.
- Because we design and manufacture, it is easy for us to custom make designs and develop new forms to expand your creative license! Tile sheets can be manufactured with any combination of materials + finishes. Simply contact us with your specification.

FAQ 4. Can you ‘cut’ ALLOY metal tiles?
- We supply a diamond cutting disc (SG-ELASTIC wheel 125 x 1mm) with every order. This allows for very quick, low-burr cutting where necessary.
FAQ 5. I’m a DIY’er, can I install ALLOY tiles myself?
As a specialised metal tile, we recommend ALLOY tiles are installed by a DIY expert or professional tiler.
FAQ 6. Can I use any grout?
We highly recommend using Laticrete unsanded grout with ALLOY’s solid metal tiles to avoid the tiles getting scratched during installation. The grout is available in three colours: midnight black, bright white & silver shadow.
FAQ 7. How can I clean my tiles?
Our grouted stainless steel tiles have been used for splashbacks for over 20 years in both residential & commercial kitchens. Generally, using warm soapy water with a soft sponge on ALLOY tiles is enough to maintain a beautiful finish. Avoid any acid based cleaners as they may cause pitting or corrosion of the metal surface.
FAQ 8. Will raw steel tiles rust?
Raw Steel evokes a beautifully textured and unique finish. If exposed to elements such as water from a splashback as per your intended use, the metal will oxidize and slowly patina over time if unsealed. You are able to prevent this from occurring if a clear coating is applied after installation. To prevent this from happening, please consider using a sealant such as Beckett’s microcrystalline wax which stops the tiles from ageing. The product is easy to apply, requires annual reapplication & a small amount goes a long way.
FAQ 9. Can these tiles be used by the sea/ in pool areas?
For pools, water features and other outdoor uses where ALLOY tiles may be exposed to coastal environments or brackish water, we suggest the use of Marine grade stainless steel tiles. Our marine grade stainless steel material is available in brushed & mirror finish.
FAQ 10. Can I order more than one finish per sheet?
Yes you can, just send us an email at email@example.com to discuss your project with us.
